This surgery in Aigburth (Liverpool) is an example of a “clean sheet” project undertaken by Custom Design. Every detail was carefully thought out to maximise efficiency and for ease of working.

Note how the available space has been divided into two dedicated areas – the surgery and the decontamination area, all within a single room.

Every item of furniture and equipment has its place and its function. Look at how the surgery has multiple working levels – the dentist can work at a level suited to the patient and the nurse can work seated at a higher level or standing at the main worktops.

Dividing a room could have wasted space, but clever design touches avoid this. The doors are lead-lined to serve as a screen when X-ray equipment is in use, and the top cupboards are double-sided to minimise handling of instruments.
